Passengers traveling to and from North America follow a piece-based system with generous weight limits.

Travel Class Allowance:
  • Business Class: Baggage allowance for North America ticketed and origin passengers will be 2 pieces at 32 kg (70 lbs) each. The total dimensions of the two pieces must not exceed 270 cm (106 in), with no one piece exceeding 158 cm (62 in).
  • Economy Class: Baggage allowance for North America ticketed and origin passengers will be 2 pieces at 23 kg (50 lbs) each. The total dimensions of the two pieces must not exceed 270 cm (106 in), with no one piece exceeding 158 cm (62 in).
Important Notes:
  • Same-Day Travel Eligibility: Baggage allowance applies when travel is completed on the same day (within 24 hours) or on the next scheduled Air Niugini flight day. This includes international arrivals connecting to domestic departures and vice versa.
  • Booking Details: Flight numbers must be clearly shown in bookings to ensure all stations are aware of same-day travel or travel within 24 hours of the next scheduled PX flight day, enabling smooth baggage handling.
  • Stopover Rules: Where an intended stopover is taken en route, the applicable baggage allowance for each sector or carrier will apply.
  • US DOT Regulations: According to US Department of Transportation regulations, when traveling to, from, or within the USA on flights involving multiple airlines, the airline whose flight number appears first on your ticket will determine whether its baggage rules or another airline’s baggage rules will apply throughout your itinerary.
  • Weight Limit: To ensure safe handling, no single checked item should exceed 32 kg (70 lbs) in weight.
Infant Baggage Allowances (Under 2 Years)

Traveling with an infant can be both exciting and challenging. To make your journey smoother, we offer generous baggage allowances for infants under 2 years of age on both domestic and international routes. Understanding these allowances ensures you pack appropriately and travel with peace of mind.

To/From North AmericaInfants not entitled to a seat shall additionally be allowed one checked piece provided that the sum of the three dimensions does not exceed 115 cm (45 in) and that the weight does not exceed 10 kg (22 lbs.).

Infants shall additionally be allowed one checked or carry on fully collapsible stroller/pushchair or infants carry basket or infant’s car seat which may be carried in the passenger cabin subject to the availability of space.

Prohibited Items in Checked Baggage

Passengers must not pack items that are:

  • Prohibited by the law or government policies of any state to be flown from or to.
  • Likely to endanger the aircraft or persons on board due to their weight, size, shape, or character, as determined by Air Niugini.
  • Perishable or fragile items which include and are not limited to cash, precious metals, jewellery, laptop, camera, mobile phone, I-pad or any other electronic device of value, negotiable papers, business documents or samples, securities or other valuables.

Liability Disclaimer: Except as provided for under the relevant provisions in 4 and 5, Air Niugini will not be liable for the loss, damage to, or delay in the delivery of any fragile or valuable items packed as checked baggage, whether with or without the airline’s knowledge. Passengers are encouraged to keep such items as hand carry.

Additional Guidelines
  • Storage Limitations: Passengers should be aware that some Air Niugini-operated services have limited storage capacity.
  • Domestic vs. International Travel:
    • Domestic Travel: Defined as travel not combined with any international flights.
    • International Travel: Defined as travel between two or more countries, including flights within those countries when combined with international flights.
  • Excess Baggage Fees: Additional baggage may be carried at a fixed baggage rate per kilogram in excess. An excess fee will be collected for each kilogram of baggage over the designated free baggage allowance and for each piece that is overweight.

Note: Passengers using Air Niugini connecting services for international travel are entitled to the applicable international free baggage allowance. Ensure compliance with these guidelines to avoid delays or additional charges.
