A Link PNG Dash 8 aircraft, P2-ANX was set on fire and burnt out by rioters who invaded Mendi airport yesterday afternoon following an election petition decision by the courts.

The airline was operating a scheduled Regular Public Transport (RTP) service to Mendi when the incident occurred.

The airline crew including two pilots, a load master and a cabin crew member have now returned safely to Port Moresby.

Link PNG will also complete a full review of what occurred, and a risk assessment in accordance with PNG Civil Aviation Safety Authority (PNG CASA) requirements.

The services to Mendi are suspended and also temporarily to� �Tari and Wapenamanda, whilst Link PNG reviews its schedule due to the lack of this aircraft to provide services.� Link PNG hopes to resume services to Tari and Wapenamanda as soon as possible.
