Security Procedures
At Air Niugini, passenger safety is paramount. Our security procedures protect everyone on board while minimizing inconvenience. Familiarise yourself with these steps to ensure a smooth and efficient experience through security.
1. Preparing for Airport Security:
The key to a stress-free experience at airport security is preparation. Here’s what you should have ready before you reach the security checkpoint:
- Required Documentation: Keep your passport, boarding pass, and any required visas easily accessible. It’s also useful to have hotel reservations or travel itineraries on hand.
- Check-in and Baggage Drop: Complete check-in and drop off checked baggage before heading to security. Ensure your carry-on complies with size and weight limits.
- Dressing for Security: Wear easily removable shoes and minimal jewellery. Empty your pockets of metal objects, and be prepared to remove jackets or coats.
2. Navigating the Security Screening Process
Understanding the security screening process can help you move through it efficiently and without stress:
- Metal Detectors: Remove metal objects from pockets and place them in trays. You will also need to remove shoes, belts, and jackets.
- Liquids, Gels, and Aerosols: Each container must not exceed 100ml, and all must fit into a clear, resealable plastic bag with a 1-litre capacity.
- Laptops and Electronics: Large electronics such as laptops must be removed from your carry-on and screened separately. Keep smaller electronics easily accessible for additional inspection if needed.
- Security Scanning: Carry-on luggage and personal items will be scanned. Additional manual inspection may occur if needed.
3. Prohibited and Permitted Items: What You Can and Cannot Bring
To ensure the safety of all passengers, certain items are prohibited from being brought on board. Familiarizing yourself with these restrictions can help you avoid delays:
- Prohibited Items: Weapons, explosives, sharp objects, and flammable materials are banned from both carry-on and checked luggage.
- Permitted Items: Personal items such as medications, toiletries, and electronics are allowed as long as they comply with size restrictions. Declare liquid medications at security.
4. Tips for a Hassle-Free Security Experience
Here are some additional tips to help you breeze through airport security:
- Arrive Early: Arrive two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight to allow for security checks.
- Keep Essentials Handy: Keep travel documents in an accessible spot.
- Stay Informed: Security regulations vary, so check the Air Niugini website or contact our Customer Care Team.
- Be Patient and Cooperative: Follow instructions from security staff to ensure a smooth experience.
